It was founded as the School of Arts of Edinburgh but with the introduction of the royal charter in 1996, the university gained the status of a university. It is one of the oldest institutes of higher education in the UK.

For Undergraduate:
- Students with HSC are required to complete a foundation programme, such as that offered at our Dubai and Malaysia Campuses, before beginning an undergraduate degree. This leads to either 1st or 2nd year entry on a degree programme, depending on grades achieved.
For Postgraduate:
- A four-year bachelor’s degree from a university in Bangladesh with a final score of at least 3.0 out of a four-point scale is required. The University should be fully recognized by UK ENIC (previously known as UK NARIC).
Heriot Watt University is divided into five distinct academic schools. The School of Energy, Geoscience, Society and Infrastructure offers undergraduate programmes in architectural engineering, civil and structural engineer, geography and urban studies, construction project management and biology. It also offers postgraduate programmes in civil, water and safety engineering, building, planning and urban design, energy and renewables, construction management, geoscience, petroleum engineering, marine, environment and climatic change and housing, real estate and social policy.
